At our school we did community service. We gleaned sweet potatoes at a field. I was not really looking forward to it, but competition made it really fun. Our group got 125 bags of potatoes, averaging at about ten pounds each. Our goal was ten bags each, but with a group of five we got 25 each. It made me feel good being able to help feed families when all of that food was going to waste. At first I was working with Charlie and Will, but then I moved around and was “hired” by Jack and Matthew. Then I moved again and worked with Sam, Lael, Fred, and Will. We established a system of bagging, picking, and bringing it back to the truck. At first I was a picker, but then I changed to a bagger, and then I bagged and carried bags to the truck. We were very efficient and got several bags a minute.
