“Ranger’s Apprentice” By: Ryan

I am reading “Ranger’s Apprentice” by John Flanagan. I started reading this book because my cousin recommended it. I didn’t understand the book at first, but after a while you start to understand the plot. It is about a young boy named Will and he is chosen to be the apprentice of a very mysterious ranger. A ranger is practically a spy. Will is specially trained to be sneaky and agile. He even gets a special ranger horse. Everything is going well until the ranger gathering. That is when all the rangers from different fiefs come and inform each other on what’s going on. One ranger says that Lord Morgarath and his army is back to invade. Will has to use everything he learns to keep everyone alive. I think it is a very good suspenseful book!

The Mistreated Mongoose By: Ryan

The Mistreated Mongoose

Mongoose had a very dull colored coat and was very quiet. Everyone taunted him and treated him badly. Snake was cunning and his scales were a glittering black. Everyone praised him while he showed off boastfully and made jokes about how lame Mongoose was. Mongoose however, would always be in the back miserable like always. Every night Mongoose would have to fight through the crowd to get home. Then he would cry himself to sleep. Every day it was the same routine.

One day, while Mongoose was catching mice, he came across Snake.

“Get out of the way furball!” Snake said.

“No! Worm face!” Replied Mongoose

“What did you call me?” Said Snake small hiss escaping his mouth.

“Worm face,” Mongoose answered this time, in a low growl.

A small crowd was gathering around them and gradually growing larger. There were people shifting uneasily and some very awkward silence. Then somebody in the crowd started chanting, “Fight! Fight! Fight!” He was slowly joined by others. A smile was forming on Snake’s lips as he slithered to the center of the commotion. Everyone was sure that Snake would win. He had the skills, the looks, the speed, and the strength. What they didn’t know was that Mongoose had some of the same qualities. Snake lunged at Mongoose who easily pranced out of the way. Snake didn’t give up but each time Mongoose would dart out of reach. Mongoose finally took his chance and pinned snake down. Nobody knows how hard Snake struggled to wriggle out of the position but he failed. Snake then pleaded Mongoose for mercy.

“Worm Face,” Mongoose said cooly when he actually was snickering to himself. With that Mongoose bit down hard on Snake’s neck and killed him. Mongoose had a fine dinner for himself that night and got more respect that he ever deserved.

Moral: Looks can be deceiving.

My Wisdom Tale Comic By: Ryan

I did the “The Old Dog And Coyote” for my wisdom tale. I thought the process was a little hard to draw if you didn’t have a stylus. It was fun to adjust the colors and fonts. “The Old Dog And Coyote” is about an old dog who is sleeping while a wolf attacks the chickens in the chicken barn. The farmer scares the wolf away, calls the old dog useless, and refuses to feed the dog. The dog scavenges for food when he comes across a coyote who is practicing jumping. He tries to jump over a cactus and gets pricked. The dog pulls the thorns out. In return, the coyote goes to the barn at night and the dog pretends to scare it away. The farmer is proud so he feeds the dog.

The moral is: Treat others well and they will treat you well.

Wisdom Tales Test By: Ryan

I thought that since we had our iPads, we had all the answers right in our hands for the Wisdom Tales test. It seemed like a very easy task for me to complete. How I prepared was that I looked at every different type of moral and thought why that story’s moral was that moral. I felt that the matching part was easy especially because I highlighted my key words. I admit that the essay part was a little boring and it made my hand hurt after a while. I would definitely feel more comfortable if the typing was done on the iPad. I do like taking open note tests and they aren’t as hard as I thought. I enjoyed the test!

I Am Thankful For… By: Ryan

I am thankful for my pets because they give me something to play with when I’m bored. My snake and hedgehog can swim so I play with them in the pool. My cat always keeps me company when my parents are away. He sits on my lap and I play video games. My cat uses toilet to go to the bathroom, no litter box. I like them very much! What are you grateful for and why?

Run On Sentences By: Ryan

grammar project

I chose run on sentences for my presentation in Language Arts class. I was very eager to present it because I just wanted to get it over with. I was nervous the whole LA class until the teacher called me up to present my Keynote presentation. Immediately, I felt eighteen pairs of eyes look at me. It actually went very smoothly. In the end I showed how to use the laser pointer by pressing on the iPad screen. I had a lot of fun. Did you know you can’t put a comma between two complete sentences? That is called a comma splice.

Pumpkin Making!! By: Ryan

middle school pumpkin decorating Community service

Today was community service day and every period was short, Yay!!! Our advisory was going to decorate pumpkins for the kids in the Duke Children’s Hospital. My mom was a driver so my best friend, Davi, and I went in the car to go to Brueggers Bagels where we ate a yummy lunch. Then we got our pumpkins and I named mine Chunk. Everybody decorated theirs in a special way. I used glitter glue, pipe cleaners, and puffballs. He was very sticky and scary when I was done. We drove to the hospital and thought it was pretty cool how they set it up where each floor is for something else. I like how they try to make each holiday as normal as possible. It was interesting. I liked decorating pumpkins!

Hiking Up Stone Mountain By: Ryan W

“No-More-Stairs!!” I hate those things! There were over a thousand of them on Stone Mountain. I love to go hiking through the fresh mountain air. I’m just scared of heights, which really doesn’t help! I was at Stone Mountain in Virginia, USA on a trip with my school to Camp Cheerio. We were at the peak and that is when I came across a tree with a green thing on it. It was a odd caterpillar. He was a bright green little fella with some maroon stripes and some green stripes. He had a triangular head and guess what, he bit me! What I was really anxious about was the waterfall. I heard people died on it recently. When I finally got to it, it was phenomenal! It had lots of jagged rocks at the bottom. On the way back there we a lot more animals including giant millipede, camel cricket, and a bright green crab spider. When we got to the bottom, of course everybody went to go look at the dead deer. Stone Mountain was magnificent!
