The First Memory by Jack H

In Language arts class we are reading The Giver and in the book the Giver gives a memory to Jonas. I think it would be good to start with a happy memory. If I was the Giver, the first memory I would give would be of someone on vacation. I would do this because going on vacation is fun and I think that the person I’m giving it to would enjoy it. I think they would enjoy it because the memory would be at the beach and everyone likes the beach.

Community Service Blog by Jack H

At school we have community service twice a year. At the beginning of the year we went sweet potato picking. We also have one at the end of the year and for that one we went to a place called TABLE. Because some kids cannot afford food they get school lunches but on the weekend they have no food to eat. TABLE helps with that problem by sending food home with them. We donated food to TABLE by bringing 260.5 pounds of food. We did a few different things while we were there. For instance, we wrote the expiration date on the cans so they knew when the food expired. Then after that we split into teams and put the food where it was supposed to go on the shelves. Then some friends and I went outside and swept the porch and the steps to the porch. If I had a chance to do it again I would.

Westing Game Blog by Jack H

I finished reading The Westing Game. It was not my favorite book but it was fine. In the book you really have to pay attention to the small details. Some parts didn’t makes sense to me, but in the end all parts of the puzzle fit together. The author is really smart and after you read the book more then once you will start to see that she puts the answer in the text. It was a very detailed book.

What Would I Do If I Was An Adult by Jack. H

Flickr storm

If I was an adult this is what I would do. If I had to be an adult then it would be for the rest of my life. It would be helpful in some places but not in others. It would be fun to be able to drive myself places but it would not be fun to not get recess. First, I would drive around in a my car. I would go around the world in my car. After that I would get on a first class flight to Fiji and that’s where I would spend the rest of my days.

Skeleton Key Recommendation by Jack

Photo created by Jack

I am reading a book called Skeleton Key it is by Anthony Horowitz . It is a great book if you like action. If you have not read the first or second book then stop now but if you have or don’t care then keep going. In the first book Alex Rider’s parents die in a plane crash and he lives with his uncle. Alex finds out that his uncle is a spy after his uncle is found dead in a car. And in the next two books he is sent to different places. In Skeleton Key he is sent to an island to find a something but no one will tell him what. If you read the book you will find the what they are trying to find. I really like this book and I think other people will like it too.

Wisdom Tale by Jack. H

There once was a flock of sheep. In the flock there was a sheep called Baptiste and all the other sheep thought he was so cool. One day the farmer got Baptiste in a bag and brought him in so the farmer could cut his fur.

There was another sheep called Ferdinand. Ferdinand did not think Baptiste was cool. Because he did not like Baptiste people did not like him. They made fun of him and played jokes on him but Ferdinand did not mind.

When Baptiste got back all the sheep wanted their fur to be like his, all but Ferdinand. So the farmer got the sheep and got all their fur. Ferdinand wanted his fur because it would be winter and that meant cold. When winter came they all, but one, froze and got cold. They asked if he would sleep next to them but he said, “No.”

They asked if he would give some of his fur. He said,”No!”

All but Ferdinand froze to death. The farmer asked Ferdinand why he had not followed the pack. I knew it would be winter in a few days. That meant it would be cold and I wanted to be myself and not do things just to fit in or be normal.

The moral is be yourself and don’t do things just to fit in or be normal.

Wisdom Tale Comic by Jack

In class we picked a wisdom tale to do a comic on. I picked A Flock of Birds. The picture to the left is my comic. While I was doing this project I learned how to us Comic Life, Doodle Buddy and Outlook email to put the pictures in the comic. At first I did not know what to do but because I did not know how to get the pictures in, but I used my my iPad to email the picture to myself. Then I went to Outlook on the computer to put them in my comic.

A Flock of Birds was the third tale we read. It was about a flock of birds that a hunter got the birds in a net. Then one day a wise bird said that if we flap our wings at the same time then the net will lift. So they tried it and it worked. Then one day the birds got in a disagreement with each other so they did not work together and the hunter got them.

Open Note Test by Jack

Open note tests are not really easy. Just because they’re open note does not mean that you don’t have to study. When you take an open note test you’re not just copying from your notes you have to think, study, and use your notes to help you. I liked that we got to use our iPads to take notes but I think we should have each country in different notes so it is easier to find the story. I like open note test because all of your information is right in front of you. It took a long time but I think I did good on it.

Jack Taylor by Michael J

On Tuesday, November 20, Jack Taylor dropped a new record amount of points; with 138! Taylor is a player for Grinnell, a division III team in Iowa. Bevo Francis of Rio Grande had the NCAA scoring record with 113 points 1954. In 1953, he also had 116 in a different game. Frank Selvy was the first to reach triple figures with 100 in 1954. The thing is Taylor is only 5 foot 10 and weighs 170 pounds. In the game he was 52-108 for field goals, 27-71 for 3-pointers, and 7-10 for free throws, an undersized basketball player. He broke the previous Grinnell record of  89. He had three rebounds, three steals and no assists. Grinnell went on to win 179 to 104 over Faith Baptist, but the surprising the thing was David Larson of Faith Baptist scored 70 points. In the NBA, the most points scored in a game was 100 by Wilt Chamberlan. Taylor got a little bit of a bad rap because Hepplewhite were saying he was a ball hog, but he said that his teammates were trying to get him the ball because they knew he had a chance at the record.

I’m Thankful For… By Jack. H

I’m thankful for my dog. Ever since my other dog had to be put down, I wanted another dog. So we went to a dog breeder that lived a few hours away. When we got there for the first time all the dogs were really small. The second time they had grown a little. The reason I’m thankful for him is because if I’m feeling down he comes over to cheer me up. He may not be the smartest dog in the world but he is good enough for me.
