Membean by: Lucy W.

In Language Arts class we have been doing an online vocabulary website called Membean. Each person gets a set of words that suits their level, everyone works at their own pace. This year Membean has been a really good experience for me. I have learned lots of new words that I now see in books, movies and on television shows.

Membean is a really good system for learning vocabulary. It works at my own level and I learn so many more words. Also, my whole Language Arts class wrote feedback about Membean at the beginning of the year. We then got an email from the Membean developer about our letters. He replied to every single one of our letters. It was really cool seeing that he would take the time out of his day to write us all a reply.

At first I was not a fan of Membean because I had not gotten used to it, but then it became a really good learning system and I learned lots of new words. On Membean you can see your progress that you have made over that week, and you also can see what level you are on. Membean has been such a great experience for me and I would like to do it next year. This website has supplied me with a whole new set of words. I definitely recommend Membean to other students. It lets you learn the words at your own pace. Over this whole year I have improved a lot on getting more words correct and not as many wrong. I thought I really improved this year and I would like to do Membean next year.

Memory by: Lucy W.

Photo Drawn by Me

In Language Arts class we are reading the book “The Giver.” In this book Jonas a young boy lives in a perfect community, no pain, no war and no choices. Though, Jonas has been chosen to be the new Receiver, who is a person who receives all memories from the past, including pain, war, feelings and happiness. The current Receiver trains Jonas by transmitting memories to him of the past. Jonas has to experience everything that the Giver had which includes lots of pain.

If I were the Receiver, the first memory I would give away would be the beach. The beach is very peaceful, comforting, and relaxing. It would be a good memory where Jonas would experience warmth and comfort. He would see the seagulls flying above him looking for food, and he would see the shells all different shapes and sizes. He would hear the ocean and the children laughing while playing in the water. He would feel the sand beneath him, warm and soft. He would be happy, lying their the sun beaming down on him, it would be his happy place to go to when he was in pain, or needed to get away. It would be a pleasant, perfect memory to give away.

The Ideal Teacher by: Lucy W.

In Language Arts class we are reading the book “The Giver.” In “The Giver” their is an ideal society, everything is perfect, no choices, and everything is the same. An ideal teacher would be kind. He or she would not be too strict and let us play some games in class from time to time. The ideal teacher would rarely give any homework, I would hope, and they would not clutter us with to many projects. The ideal teacher would be organized, she would have all of our tests, homework, and projects grades all ready to be handed back. The ideal teacher would give us some extra credit, so we could raise a bad grade or let us have some candy from time to time. Also, the ideal teacher would give us some homework passes, of course we would have to earn them, but on a busy night it would be nice to use a pass so we wouldn’t get in trouble. The ideal teacher would also be fair, and nice. That is the key to a teacher, if they are very nice to you you don’t feel like you did something wrong, but if a teacher is mean to you it puts you down and makes you sad. These are just some of my ideas about the ideal teacher. In your opinion what would you think an ideal teacher would be like?

The Giver by: Lucy W.

In Language Arts class we are reading the book The Giver. In this book it is a perfect community, with no pain, no war and no choices. In this book each child is given an assignment at the age of twelve; this event is called the Ceremony of Twelve. I think my Assignment would be a Nurturer. I think I would be assigned to a nurturer because I love kids. I love to help them, play with them and help them learn. Little kids are so cute and I definitely show that quality in my daily life. I would definitely think the committee of elders would assign me to that job. I would be really happy if I got to be a Nurturer, but it would be sad to release a child if they are not doing well.

Lady Or The Tiger by: Lucy W.

In Language Arts we did a project about a story called The Lady Or The Tiger. Here is my story: He stood looking anxiously at the door to the right, turning around to meet his lover’s eyes again. She looked straight at him, smiling. He didn’t know what choice to make. The princess had his life in her hands. He walked very slowly to the right door, praying that he was going to live. He thought before he opened it, my lover may kill me or let me live with another maiden. He slowly grasped the door and opened it. Cautiously he walked inside. He heard a low growl coming from the dark room. He knew it. The tiger came towards him but it did not attack him. It simply sat down and purred. The tiger walked out into the light with the man. The king was confused. He was sure he put a ferocious tiger in that door. The king looked over at his daughter. She was smiling and laughing happily.

The king was furious. The tiger was tame and let the man live. The king yelled at his daughter. Screaming, the daughter started to run. The king made the guards catch her. She cried and furiously started hitting the guards. She was put in a cell, and was put on trial the next day with the man, her lover. The next day, the princess and her lover went into the arena. The king had pulled a trick on them. He put a ferocious tiger in each door.

They both walked out. The princess went to to the left, the man went to the right. They opened the doors at the same time. Then out came the two tigers. They ripped the princess and the man to pieces as the crowd started screaming, crying and yelling. The man and princess didn’t live, but they did die together and would love each other forever.

If I Were A Grown Up by: Lucy W.

If I were a grown up, I would live in Hollywood with my husband Justin Bieber. While he was performing I would go shopping and eat at amazing restaurants. We would be happily married and live in a huge mansion. We would have our own security guards and Justin would take me on his world tours. He would buy me six cars, two dogs, and much more. We would be on magazines, everyone’s lock screens on their phones, the hottest couple in Hollywood. We would live happily ever after, and forever and always.

Comic Project by: Lucy W.

I did my project on the wisdom tale The Smuggler. I really liked this story because the guard never noticed that the smuggler had a different donkey. The moral of this story was pay attention to the obvious. I really liked this project because it was interesting and fun to draw the comic. I like these kind of projects because it is fun to do your own choice. I used Sketchbook Pro. I like that app because it has a lot 0f options. I thought this project was a fun project.

I Am Thankful for… By: Lucy W

I am thankful for my dog, Bear. I have always wanted a dog and I am so glad I got one. He is so fun to play with and have around. He is so funny and he is so sweet. When we first got him he was really small and not as playful because he didn’t know us that well. He is a labradoodle but he doesn’t look like one and we think he has some water dog in him. He is not one yet but will be soon.

iPad Tips by: Lucy W.

A tip for the iPad is always put your things in Evernote. My iPad was updated and the update crashed. I lost a lot of things like my pictures, some of my notes, Skitch and Voicecards. I have started putting all of my notes and some pictures in Evernote so I will not lose them. A good tip is to use Evernote in case you are in this situation.
