Talk To Your Teen by Anna W.

In the book Cosmic, Liam is reading a book called Talk To Your Teen. The book talks about how to get your teens to talk to you and have a relationship with them. If I were to add some advice this is what it would be.

If I really could add something to this book it would be to give your teen some alone time and not always be on their back about stuff. For example, don’t make your teen go to bed very early and let them hang out with friends when they are in the mood.

I would really like it if I didn’t have a bedtime and I could stay up and hang out with friends. Sometimes my parents won’t let me invite a friend over until I clean my room. The problem with that is I might finish cleaning my room like an hour before I wanted my friend to come and then it’s too late to invite them. So maybe if my parents would believe that I will clean my room before my friend gets there it would be much easier to invite them ahead of time.

Also, I’ll go on my phone when I get home from school but then my mom will make me get off it and do homework. Sometimes I like having a break in between school and homework. That is my advice about teens.

If I Were a Grown Up by Anna W.

Photo created by Anna W.

I would love to experience a day of being a grown up but I would definitely want to live my childhood as long as I can. If I was a grown up I would do many things I can’t do now. I would love not having a bed time because I am never tired when I go to bed, but when I wake up I am tired. Another thing I would enjoy would be not having to go to school every day. Although I love school, sometimes I just wake up and don’t want to go at all. Then I would go on vacation as much as I could.

I love going to tropical places like beaches and islands! Also, I want to go to Paris. I think it would be really exciting to drive because I love shopping and I would be able to go wherever I want whenever I want. One thing that would be cool would to live in some place very beautiful and exotic like in the mountains or Hawaii. Another thing I would do would be to collect and wear makeup a lot. Lastly, I would own a variety of pets such as dogs, bunnies, hamsters, and many more. I have always wanted a parrot that would repeat what you say! So hopefully I could own one of those. It would be a fun experience being an adult but I would not want to stay an adult forever!

Baltimore Lacrosse Tournament by Anna W.

This weekend I went to Baltimore for a lacrosse tournament. We left on Friday morning and got there in the afternoon. Soon after we got there we went on a walk to see all the cool things down at the harbor. We went on a submarine to see the inside and it was very interesting. Probably the most fascinating room was the kitchen because there was an ice cream machine. Later that night when two of my friends arrived we all went out to dinner at this restaurant named Phillips.

That was only the start. We woke up very early the next morning and had breakfast before we went to the lacrosse tournament. We won our first game, tied our second game and won our third game. It was very cold but fun. Then we went out to lunch. We came back to the hotel and rested a little before our next adventure.

A couple friends and I went on a dragon shaped paddle boat in the harbor. I was in charge of stearing but it didn’t work out so well. Let’s just say we almost hit a bouwy and a lot of boats. I say it was the other boats’ fault for getting in my way.

After that we went to Ripley’s Belive it or Not museum. There were many cool things like Justin Bieber made out of all candy, a penny made of thousands of pennies, a mirror tunnel, etc. After that we went to Noodles and Company for dinner. That’s not it, we also went to a candy shop that had Chacolate bars the size of my head, two foot long boxes of nerds, giant candy canes, and lots more stuff. My friends and I all got a bag and picked all the flavored of jelly beans they had.

We went back to the hotel and went to sleep thinking we were leaving first thing in the morning, but actually we went to the Baltimore Aquarium. My favorite part of the aquarium was the dolphins and the parrot that repeated what you said. Finally, we packed up the car and headed home. That was a grat trip! My favorite part was definitely the lacrosse tournament.

In For a Surprise! By Anna W.

Last weekend I went to a farm with Some friends. At the farm we did a corn maze. It was pretty tricky because everywhere you went looked exactly the same. So we found our way out by just keep going straight even if it wasn’t on a path. That was a challenge but at the same time it was very exciting.

After that the fun wasn’t done. We had some pizza and played with the baby goats, and donkeys. When the sun went down, to get in the Halloween spirit, we went on a handed trail. Well, I can’t really say I did the trail because everyone but one of my friends, my mom, and brother were the only ones who did it. I was going to do it until we were waiting in line and a man with red eyes and a chain saw came out. He started chasing us because we were the most scared and he went to the people who were terrified. Many people including me chickened out at that time except for a few people who went in but came right back out.

As my mom, my brother, and one of my friends were still in the trail, all of us were waiting at the exit for them to come out. When we were waiting, suddenly a corn stalk fell down. Uh oh, I was the only one who saw it, and out came the guy with the chain saw again. This time he started chasing me. He was chasing me everywhere and I had no clue what to do. I had this idea to run to the middle of a crowd of people who were in line to buy tickets. At that point I was 99 percent sure I was safe so I stopped to take a breath. Well I guess I was wrong, because he just acted like there was nobody surrounding me. He charged right into the crowd, going for me and I ran behind the ticket booth. Not the best plan, because if he came back there with me I would be cornered. Of course he did, so I just stood there terrified as he was standing behindind me. I didn’t hear anything but the sound of his chain saw buzzing.

About 30 seconds later he stopped his chain saw and took his mask off. There he was standing with a big bloody cut on his face, and this was not a fake mask it was a real cut. It turns out when he chased me into the big crowd, someone got so scared they hit him. Well now I was safe and I just went back out to my friends who were watching me the whole time. It was probably very amusing to them. I was still shaking even when I was around my parents and friends.

A few minutes later all of us were in a huddle talking and suddenly a werewolf stuck their head in our conversation. I saw it but not many others did. Then when one of my friends turned around they saw the face and freaked out. Everyone was laughing because the werewolf just put its head right on her shoulder and she didn’t even notice.

Soon after that we packed up the cars and went home. The whole ride home was a long trip through the pitch dark country side, and I had this strange feeling that two red eyes were going to pop out next to my window. That night was very fun and scary and I don’t think I would have survived it if my friends were not there!

Decorating Pumpkins Anna W.

For community service Glass advisory decorated pumpkins for the Duke Children’s Hospital. We spent a while decorating pumpkins and making sure everybody had their own unique design. It was very fun because it really felt like we were getting into the Halloween spirit. Also, at the same time I was thinking of how happy we were going to make the children who are sick have a fun Halloween too. I didn’t know community service could be this fun! After we decorated them they looked so good because every one of them had their own qualities and looks.

After we finished decorating we got to take them to the hospital and show which ones were whose and why we decorated them like this. A woman who was there talked to us about what she was going to do with the pumpkins and she said that they were going to spread out the pumpkins through the whole hospital so kids could see them wherever they go.

Then she gave us time to ask some questions. I learned many cool facts about the hospital. The thing I thought was the most exciting was that at the hospital they try to make every holiday as fun as possible. On Christmas they have a whole room full of presents and the parents of the child come pick out the ones they think their child will like. Then on Christmas Eve the nurses stay up and deliver them to each room. On Halloween the kids go trick or treating at all the doors in the building that have a ghost on them. In addition to those holidays they do many more and try to celebrate all the holidays the kids would miss at home. It was a blast learning about the holidays and how much fun the kids get to have, but it was also very sad to know that they don’t get to go to school every day and be like all of their other friends.

When I grow up I would love to work there and make kids feel comfortable and happy. This was a great experience and I would like to make something to decorate the hospital for Christmas too!

I Am Proud Of… By Anna W.

I am proud that I am smart but at the same time I am athletic. I get great grades on my report card and on quizzes/tests. In addition to that, I am a fast runner, I’m on two lacrosse teams, and I play tennis. I just started playing tennis this summer and I enjoy it very much. My main sport is lacrosse and I have my first tournament out of town coming up in Charlotte, NC. I always try my hardest in sports and school. I really enjoy sports because it is a challenge and I like to do extra curriculum after school. I hope my knowledge from school and sports takes me far in life!
