I am Thankful for…….by Lana K.

There are many things that I am thankful for, for example, my Uggs (boots), my Northface (jacket), my phone, etc. Although, there is one thing that stands out of most of them. My education. There are some kids in the world that don’t even have pencils to write with or books to read. I go to Durham Academy. A place where, on a daily basis, I get to see my friends and expand my knowledge of various subjects. I get taught Language Arts, Spanish, Math, Sports, History, Science, and a Fine Art. But, the people I should thank are my parents, who drive me to school, and pay for it. By doing those things makes me know they really care. DA is such a great place to go to school because, for one, almost all of my closest friends attend DA, and two, they make learning fun (most of the time). This particular holiday season, you should think about what your thankful for and make sure to acknowledge it. Have a Happy Turkey Day!

I can’t even begin to say how many things I am thankful for! I have two specific things I am thankful for though. I really want to thank my family and DA. My family has been so grateful to me. Including my mom, dad, my two dogs, and yes, even my sister Joy. My family members have each gone out of their way to do little things for me that I will never forget. For instance, my mom and dad always help me when I am stuck on something even when it doesn’t have to do with academics. They are always there for me 24/7, and they would do anything for me. They would even die for me. I am so grateful I have parents that love me so much!

I am so glad we have such a close bond as a family, especially my mom and me. I am also grateful for my twin sister Joy. There are pros and cons to having a twin sister since I am thanking her I won’t talk about the cons. Joy is like a permanent BFF who is always there for me to talk to. We laugh together, we sing together, we do everything together! I have to admit the best thing about having a twin sister is that when you forget your homework or need help on something Joy is always there to help me.

Now I want to thank my dog. I know he can’t talk but I feel like we communicate together and he is always there to help me. He helps me get back up when I am down and his way of paying me back when I take care of him is licks. He is always giving me licks! I love my family so much that words can’t describe! This Thanksgiving I will take the time and thank everyone who has been good to me! Including all of my wonderful friends!

I am thankful for many things! But one thing in particular that I’m thankful for is my dog. I got her about six years ago. She’s a beagle lab retriever mix, she’s mostly a milk chocolate brown, but she does have some white and some black. I love her for many reasons, one thing is for sure, she is a great alarm clock. Whenever my door is left even slightly open she comes running in and jumps on my bed. You can always count on her to finish off your meals, even if you didn’t want her help she sometimes gets it her way anyway.

But like any dog she has her down sides, like recently she’s eaten two of my favorite pairs of socks in the last two weeks! The second time wasn’t really her fault, as much as it was my sister’s, my sister had the brilliant idea to make a game out of seeing if she could hit my dog with her socks. My dog is still very lovable, and I will always love her.

This summer when I was away from home for nine weeks I missed her so much! She often goes crazy when we come home from what’s normally only six weeks away from home, but this year she went insane! I love my dog, and she plays with me all of the time! My dog is very playful, and she always keeps me company! She is very fun to be with, and I am very thankful to have her.

I Am Thankful For…. by Julia

I am thankful for a lot of things, but I am especially grateful for my friends. Through the good times and the bad, my friends have been with me through it all. They are always there for me when I’m down and they always find a way to cheer me up again. Yeah, we don’t always see eye to eye on things but so what? Our differences are what make us unique. I am so lucky to have such amazing friends and I am so grateful for everything they do for me.

I Am Thankful For… By Vasili

I am thankful for my dog and cats. My dog always plays with me when he wants to or when I run around the house with him. My cats don’t play with me but they will sit with me on the couch or jump on my bed to sleep when I am at school. One of the cats will not sleep on my bed because she is afraid of my dog. She sleeps under my mom’s couch because my dog can’t fit under there. My other cat sleeps on my dog’s bed and he gets angry at her and then he barks at her. The only male cat was rescued from the Bojangles parking lot when a car ran over his foot. My mom was a few cars behind the one that hit him. She ran to get him and take him to the vet’s office to get his arm fixed. The cat that sleeps under the couch was found by my cousin in a dumpster. The cat that sleeps in my dog’s bed was my aunt’s cat that she had for a while and then she was going to be locked up in a cage if we didn’t keep her.

I am thankful for many things. I am very thankful for having pets, mainly my dogs. I love them a lot and I really think they cheer people up. I mean I don’t think I would have such a happy life without them. Sometimes I will come home from school sad, and guess what? The first thing I see when I walk into my house is my dogs coming to greet me. This same thing happens when I come home from trips, come out for breakfast in the morning, etc. it seems like they just stick by your side. If you say ” Walky” they jump up and start barking because they love going on walks.

The minute I sit down to eat a meal they sit at my feet waiting for me to drop food. I’m not kidding I’ll see them sound asleep in their bed then seconds later they will be running around and tackling each other. One of my dogs is the runt and well I guess I wouldn’t say she is ugly but you know she is not that attractive. That doesn’t mean anything to me. I love her so much and just seeing her sleep or roll over on her back makes me smile immediately. Most of my friends have big dogs but I am so glad I have a dog that can sit on my lap hide under the chairs, climb over fences, let me carry her like a baby, and most of all make me laugh all the time. I feel like I have company 24/7. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have a dog.

I am grateful for chocolate Labrador Monte. Monte is 8 years old and loves food even though he is only 70 lbs.! Monte is energetic and plays with me and my brothers every day. Our family often enjoys playing our favorite prank on him. We take a paper grocery bag and put it on his head. He then angrily tears it off his head and begins the show. He attacks the bag and rips it into a hundred pieces and then wags his tail for another fight. He loves to go on walks and enjoy our company. He is a great companion. Our family loves him and I am proud that we have Monte for our dog.

I am thankful for sports. I like sports because it keeps me active and feeling fresh. Without sports, there would be no soccer, basketball, football, baseball, etc. Also, I would also have nothing to do in recess. I love how sports are fun and good for you. And without sports, I would have nothing to do after school. I would also probably be fatter than I am now. Also, I would have nothing to watch on T.V. Most of the things I watch are related to sports, even my video games! I wouldn’t have much to talk about either. Sports are a lot more important to me than I thought they were!

I’m thankful for sleep! I love how sleeping passes the time so fast it is like you just blinked. Also dreams are fun doing things you couldn’t do in real life such as flying or walking on the moon. What’s weird about dreams is that if you die in one you wake up instead of feeling pain or if someone is talking to you in real life you hear it in your dream. The thing I hate is getting woken up because I’m not a morning person!

I Am Grateful For… By Franny C

I am thankful for my family and friends. My friends are always a way to count on a good day, even if something bad happens. They remind me that there is always tomorrow to be better. I am also grateful to have my sweet doggies to greet me at the door or fence. They always make me happy when I see them. I like being able to see both my parents all the time because I know that not all kids get to do that. I am happy that I am able to get a good education and a nice house to stay in. Unlike some kids, I can always expect some kind of meal even if it is not always too fancy.

I am also very grateful for books and writing utensils. Otherwise, if I was bored or had nothing to do, I would not be able to do anything. Education ties into this one too because if there was no school, I still wouldn’t be able to do anything because I would not know how to read or write. I would also not be able to get a job because most jobs need reading and writing skills. Luckily, we do have those things. Though I am worried that with all this technology, we will all forget the importance of spelling, reading, books, and paper. If you want, you can comment and say what you think about it!
