The Westing Game by: Davi

When I first started reading The Westing Game, I thought it was just going to be another mystery, where you know who committed the crime halfway through the book. As my class progressed through the book, I started to realize that The Westing Game was much more complicated than I thought. Ellen Raskin, the author, writes so many clues; some are hidden, and some are put right under your nose, but you don’t notice them. Simple words such as rose (don’t worry, this is not a spoiler) suddenly become blaring clues. It’s amazing how such a simple book can be so complex. The Westing Game may seem like just another mystery book, but I strongly recommend that you read it.

Squirrel and His Foolish Friends by Davi

Squirrel and His Foolish Friends

Once upon a time, there was a forest. In this forest, there lived a tribe of squirrels. All of the squirrels in this tribe were daredevils, except for one squirrel named Bob Scaredy Squirrel.

One day, Bob was talking with his friends, when they heard raucous laughter. Bob’s friends went investigating while he admired a caterpillar as it made its way up a tree. In the middle of its ascent, a lizard jumped from a nearby branch, grabbed the caterpillar, and started to run. As soon as it was out of sight, Bob heard a voice calling his name.

“Bob, come here Bob, you have to see this!!!!” Bob ran past the trees and saw, spread out on a cliff, a colossal log. Squirrels were running all over the log, their claws clacking against the wet wood.  Suddenly, there was a large crack and the log dipped a few feet. All the squirrels gasped, then started laughing. It seemed that the crack only enticed them more to go on the log, not to run away.

“Come on Bob,” Bob’s friends urged. “This log is really cool!!! It even cracked a little bit!!” Of course Bob, being a smart squirrel said no. When Bob’s friends started urging him even more, he started arguing. When the squirrels started chanting his name, Bob gave in.

He started to slowly walk towards the log, trying to not be scared. When he set one foot on the log, Bob started thinking of all the horrible things that could happen to him if he went on the log.

“No!” Bob declared, “I won’t do it!” And with that, Bob walked off into the forest. He walked for a little while, when he heard a large crack, and squirrels screaming, loudly at first, then slowly getting quieter. Bob raced back to find that the log had broken, and all the squirrels had fallen to the rocky ground below.

Moral: Do what’s right. Don’t give in to negative peer pressure.

I am thankful for my family. They are a big part of my life. They are supportive to me and they will do anything to make me a better person. They put in a lot of time in to me by taking me to all my after school activities. Although I don’t have any sibilings, my aunt is always there for me no matter what. My family is very important to me.

I can’t even begin to say how many things I am thankful for! I have two specific things I am thankful for though. I really want to thank my family and DA. My family has been so grateful to me. Including my mom, dad, my two dogs, and yes, even my sister Joy. My family members have each gone out of their way to do little things for me that I will never forget. For instance, my mom and dad always help me when I am stuck on something even when it doesn’t have to do with academics. They are always there for me 24/7, and they would do anything for me. They would even die for me. I am so grateful I have parents that love me so much!

I am so glad we have such a close bond as a family, especially my mom and me. I am also grateful for my twin sister Joy. There are pros and cons to having a twin sister since I am thanking her I won’t talk about the cons. Joy is like a permanent BFF who is always there for me to talk to. We laugh together, we sing together, we do everything together! I have to admit the best thing about having a twin sister is that when you forget your homework or need help on something Joy is always there to help me.

Now I want to thank my dog. I know he can’t talk but I feel like we communicate together and he is always there to help me. He helps me get back up when I am down and his way of paying me back when I take care of him is licks. He is always giving me licks! I love my family so much that words can’t describe! This Thanksgiving I will take the time and thank everyone who has been good to me! Including all of my wonderful friends!

Thankful For by Alex P.

I am thankful for my family. They support, help, guide, teach, and comfort me. I can always count on them. They make me laugh and cheer me on. We tease each other and know each other’s strengths and weaknesses. My brother and I get along easily and I know that I will always be there for him and I know my family will be there for me. Things come and go, but my family will always be the same. I love them all very much.

I am thankful for a lot of things, but one thing I am very thankful for is my family. I have two sisters named Kara and Kiah, and two parents named Thomas and Yolanda. My family is very close, especially my sisters and me. Even though my oldest sister Kara is in college she always tries to find the time and come home to spend time with the family. Most typical siblings argue and fight, but my sisters and I surprisingly don’t fight at all! We are like best friends that get along most of the time! My family is very important to me and I know that they will always be there for me no matter what. That’s why I’m very thankful for my family!

I am very grateful for a lot of things, but the one thing I am very grateful for is my family. I have a big and a great family. I have two sisters, one brother, a mom, and a dad. My sisters are very nice but sometimes they can be really annoying. My brother is just like me, he loves basketball and sports. My mom is so helpful. She does the dishes, the laundry, and helps me with my homework. My dad is helpful too. He does the laundry, dishes, and practices with me for basketball. I am very lucky to have a great family.
