My Own Wisdom Tale by Batu

Trapping a Spirit in a Kennel

by Batu

In a desert city, a few months ago, one day a pack of five coyotes were enjoying a great night in their den. That night, a giant downpour flooded their den and forced them out. The next day, the pack wandered into the city. The dog catchers caught them and put them in kennels at the dog shelter. The dog shelter was very close to their den. All of the pack except the wisest one were very depressed. The leader asked the wisest coyote why he was so cheerful and not depressed and mourning like the other three. The wise coyote answered, “The dog catcher may have captured our bodies but he has not captured my spirit and don’t let him capture your spirit too.” Then the pack of coyotes cheered each other up, escaped the dog shelter, and went directly to their den where they lived there happily for the rest of their lives and never let their spirits get trapped in a kennel ever again.

The Follower Ferret by Michael J

There once was a ferret living in the grasslands. His name was Jerry. He always followed another group of ferrets. He followed them everywhere they went. One day when the ferrets were trying to go hunting Jerry followed them and scared away their food. That made the group of ferrets really mad. The group of ferrets didn’t like Jerry because he always followed them around, so they decided to get rid of him. The leader of the group, Rohandro had a plan.

One day the group of ferrets decided to go into a tree hole knowing Jerry would follow. The ferrets were all too big to fit in the hole. So when they got to the hole, the group of ferrets told Jerry to go first into the hole. Jerry wasn’t very smart and wanted to be a part of the group so he went in. He got in but he couldn’t get out. Jerry thought the group of ferrets would come back to help him but they didn’t. The group of ferrets left and were thankful that they never saw him again.

Moral:  Don’t always follow the group.

Squirrel and His Foolish Friends by Davi

Squirrel and His Foolish Friends

Once upon a time, there was a forest. In this forest, there lived a tribe of squirrels. All of the squirrels in this tribe were daredevils, except for one squirrel named Bob Scaredy Squirrel.

One day, Bob was talking with his friends, when they heard raucous laughter. Bob’s friends went investigating while he admired a caterpillar as it made its way up a tree. In the middle of its ascent, a lizard jumped from a nearby branch, grabbed the caterpillar, and started to run. As soon as it was out of sight, Bob heard a voice calling his name.

“Bob, come here Bob, you have to see this!!!!” Bob ran past the trees and saw, spread out on a cliff, a colossal log. Squirrels were running all over the log, their claws clacking against the wet wood.  Suddenly, there was a large crack and the log dipped a few feet. All the squirrels gasped, then started laughing. It seemed that the crack only enticed them more to go on the log, not to run away.

“Come on Bob,” Bob’s friends urged. “This log is really cool!!! It even cracked a little bit!!” Of course Bob, being a smart squirrel said no. When Bob’s friends started urging him even more, he started arguing. When the squirrels started chanting his name, Bob gave in.

He started to slowly walk towards the log, trying to not be scared. When he set one foot on the log, Bob started thinking of all the horrible things that could happen to him if he went on the log.

“No!” Bob declared, “I won’t do it!” And with that, Bob walked off into the forest. He walked for a little while, when he heard a large crack, and squirrels screaming, loudly at first, then slowly getting quieter. Bob raced back to find that the log had broken, and all the squirrels had fallen to the rocky ground below.

Moral: Do what’s right. Don’t give in to negative peer pressure.

The Lion Makers Comic By Joanna

Lion and people

Our class chose one wisdom tale each and we made a comic about it. I chose The Lion Makers. In the Lion Makers, three people in India bring a lion back to life and get eaten while the person with common sense is in a tree and keeps living his life. The moral of this story is that common sense is just as important as academic knowledge. I chose this tale because it is interesting to me. I liked drawing the pictures a lot, and I used Skitch for drawing them. I used Skitch because I can acces the pictures easily from both a computer and an iPad. For the comic, I used Comic Life. Comic Life has lots of useful things, and it is easy to use.

In La, we made a comic for some of the wisdom tales that we read. We could pick any wisdom tale. I chose The Boatman from the Middle East. It was fun to draw our own pictures and design a comic. People used Skitch and Sketchbook Express to draw. I used Skitch. In class we had to write a summary and find out what the moral was for every story. We had stories from all over the world. I really liked making the comic.

Open Note Test by Michael J

Yesterday we took an open note test on wisdom tales. I like taking open notes because you have to think but aren’t as stressed by having to memorize terms. The advantage to using iPads was that they have better visuals like the MindMeister mind map because it was color coded and had branches. I think I did well on it and I hope I got a good grade. I think this was a good test and I like taking open note tests.

Wisdom Tales My Opinion by Neil

To prepare for the wisdom tales test I wrote down all the similar morals, writing parts of stories into my Evernote as to have everything in one note. I put two words in bold in each wisdom tale for a quick refresher on the meaning of the story, which helped for the essays that compared two wisdom tales. Practicing wise, I read through every story multiple times to prepare. Also I memorized types of stories.

I do like taking open note quizzes/tests because I take good notes and usually expect what will be on it. So nothing really takes me by surprise. Most teachers tell what’s going to be on it so as long as you understand the material and have the necessary items they’re not that hard.

Having the iPads makes open note quizzes and tests much easier. There are many resources available to help you understand and find the information for the questions. Also, it’s easier to keep things neat and in one place. After taking the test I honestly think I couldn’t have prepared better.
