Talk To Your Teen by Julia K

Right now we are reading a book called Cosmic where Liam is reading a book called Talk to Your Teen. Here is something that I would add to the book:

Parents, no matter what you think, your child is in no way perfect. No matter what you do they are not going it get straight A’s. When you keep telling your child to study more and and reread the textbook and all that, they are just going to want to ignore you. Just remember that at some point in their lives, they are going to fail a test and it is better now than when it really matters. Wen you get upset with them, they feel pressured to get better grades and it just makes them frustrated.

But if you are really concerned about your child’s grades, then maybe talk to them about a new study habits and techniques. Some people have trouble understanding the material by just reading the textbook. If they love exercising, then maybe have them jump rope while you quiz them on vocabulary. If they are having trouble with math, then print some worksheets off of the computer and pretend like it is a practice test. These are some ways that you could become a better parent, and help your child too.

If I Were a Grown Up by Julia K

If I were a grown up, I would first donate a million dollars to a worthy charity. Then, I would go to Paris, France with some of my friends. It would be during the middle of fall and as soon as we left the airport we would go to our hotel and unpack. Next, we would go have afternoon tea. This tea would have finger sandwiches, scones and french macaroons plus a large variety of teas. We would finish up the day with a visit to the Eiffel Tower and dinner at a traditional French restaurant. The next day, we would take a bus tour of Paris and see a lot of different famous land marks. The next few days would be spent shopping and exploring the city! I think it would be fun to be an adult but I’m happy with my life right now!

“Children of the River” by Julia

Right now I am reading the book Children of the River by Linda Crew. The book is about a girl name Sundara who has just fled Cambodia with her aunt’s family and is trying to fit in at an American high school. I really like this book because it shows us how different our lives are than many other people, and that we should be grateful for what we have because some people don’t even know if their family is alive anymore.

I was in the library looking for the sequel to a different book that I had just finished when I found this book. I read the back and it sounded really interesting. Also, Children of the River won the International Reading Association Award so I figured that it would be a great book.

This book is not for everyone, but if you like fiction and are okay with reading a pretty long book, than I think you would like this book.

Wisdom Tales Comic by Julia

After we finished taking our wisdom tales test, we made a Comic Life project for a wisdom tale of our choice. I chose the story Everyone Agrees to Peace. At first I tried using Skitch to draw pictures for my comic, but it wasn’t really working out too well so I just drew what I wanted on a piece of paper. Then, I took a picture of my drawings and inserted it into Comic Life. I then added all of my speech bubbles and titles. I liked doing this project because we got to be creative and it wasn’t very hard.

Wisdom Tales Test by Julia K

To prepare for the test, I re-read all of my wisdom tales, highlighted key words, and studied the types of stories. Also, I made a MindMeister map on the moral connection of all the stories for extra credit. To me, open note tests aren’t great but they aren’t horrible. I think this because I don’t like how they are harder but I like how we can use our notes.

For this test I was happy that it was open note because there were so many wisdom tales so it would be really hard to remember everything. Overall, I think it’s better that we used the iPad because without them we would have had to write all the tales, carry more stuff and we wouldn’t be able to use MindMeister right off of our iPads.

The test wasn’t hard, just long and a lot of writing. Something that I think would have helped would be giving more space for writing the essay because some people have big handwriting and it is hard to squeeze it into the small lines.

Lacrosse Tournament by Julia

Last weekend I went to a lacrosse tournament in Baltimore, Maryland with my team, the Devils. We played really well and won two games and tied one. There were teams from a lot of different places and it was fun to work on skills that we had been practicing. The things that we were working on were hustling, being loud and spreading out. I think that we did a great job of doing these.

Being in Baltimore was especially fun for me because I used to live there and so I got to go see our old house. Also, most of the team stayed in the same hotel so we had a lot of fun together. Some of us went to Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Odditorium which is like a museum of really unique things such as a mirror maze with effects that messed up your balance for a little while. The Devils had a lot of funny moments at the tournament and I had so much fun this season with my team. I can’t wait for the spring season!

Grammar Project by Julia

For my grammar project I did when to start a new paragraph. I enjoyed doing this project a lot because we used our iPads which we sometimes don’t get to do. A rule to remember when to start a new paragraph is that a paragraph should have one main idea with several supporting details pertaining to that topic. If you begin to transition to a new topic, then begin a new paragraph.Posted with BlogsyPosted with Blogsy
