In our LA class, we made wisdom tales comics on a software called Comic Life. We had learned how to use it in Technology with Mr. Schaefer. It was still difficult to convey the entire story in four panels. I drew my pictures on Sketchbook Express, and I emailed them to myself and put them in a comic in the computer. Comic Life is fun software to use.
In language arts we made comics on one of the wisdom tales we read. I chose The Useless Tree as my wisdom tale. I really enjoyed making it because I love drawing and it was a chance to be creative. I made my comic in Comic Life 2 and it was my first time using it. It was a great experience and I thought it was really cool that I could design everything on my own. I love drawing so it was fun that we actually got to draw the pictures for the comic.
The moral of my story was to not judge a book by its cover. Also, the other moral was that everything has a use. The Useless Tree is about a tree that is very crooked and ugly. It never gets cut down and is left all alone on the hill. Even though every day kids come and play under the tree, there is one man who thinks the tree had a use one day. I chose this story because I thought it would be fun to draw and because it would be easy to explain. I can wait to make another comic like this!
In my class we picked at Wisdom Tale and made a comic telling the story. I chose The Smuggler as my comic. I chose The Smuggler because it was a funny story and it was one of my favorites. When we started the project we first chose a theme for the comic and then we drew pictures for the comic we chose. I chose to draw my pictures in Skitch. I chose to use Skitch because I can draw on an iPad and then pull up the picture on the computer without emailing them. Next we added dialogue and checked it to make sure it was correct . The project was really fun and I liked it lot.
Inspired by the comic Finn’s adventures in Finnetopia I decided to make a comic too. It’s an idea I had for a while and it was about a bunch of item’s lives in the kitchen. So here is an example of my comic.
I will be telling you how to make a comic on your computer. Yes, you heard me right. A comic made on YOUR computer.
1. Get the Apps; You can get Skitch for free of the App Store, whereas unfortunately Comic Life 2 Costs $29.99 (In dollars, for any foreigners who might be reading this).
2. Open Comic Life 2, and decline the updates and the email window.
3. Chose from a number of templates; once you open up your comic you can also chose the layout of the comic.
4. You can also choose a variety of comic bubbles, like the thought bubble and the angry bubble.
Let’s get to Skitch. Once you download and open Skitch, you will see two links. Push ‘Wipe’, which is on the bottom right of the screen. You can draw anything you want, like a circle, square, and you can choose from an almost infinite amount of colors. Once you finish your drawing, you can drag it (there is a thing at the bottom of the screen that you can drag it from), after you save it, of course. Then open Comic Life 2 again (in the comic you already started, and you can drag the picture into the comic and voila. If you keep this up you will eventually have a full comic.
