Evernote

davisEvernotePhoto by Patti Donnelly

Last Friday we had the opportunity to share how we use Evernote at our school. What is Evernote and how do you use it? Is there a class where you find that Evernote really helps you? Why should someone try Evernote? The cool thing about technology is that it is always evolving. If you were on the Evernote team, what would you suggest to make the app work better for you? Please comment below.

iPad for Sixth Grade by Katie

I think iPads for sixth grade are very helpful. When you need to do something, like go on a website for school, you can just get out your iPad and go to the website. There are many apps to help you get your work done. One of my favorite apps is calendar because I can write down my homework for the day. Some more apps that are helpful are Sketchbook x or Doodle Buddy because for blog posts and other things, if you need to draw a picture, you can use one of the apps. My favorite app is Evernote because you can take notes on it or your teachers can put something there and you can see it. I like the iPads and think they are a helpful way for sixth graders to learn.

The Smuggler On Comic Life by Davi

For my project on Comic Life, I chose The Smuggler. The Smuggler is about a smuggler who when trying to cross a border, is stopped by a border control officer. The border control officer then demanded to search the smuggler’s donkey. He does so, but finds nothing. This happens for ten years, and even thought the border control officer know that the juggler is smuggling something, he can’t prove it. In ten years, when the border control officer is retired, he sees the smuggler in the market, and asks him what he was smuggling. The smuggler says that he was smuggling donkeys. The moral of the story is to not overlook the obvious, and to not judge a book by it’s cover.

Open Note Test With Our iPads by Batu

My Wisdom Tale Notes (The first four that we did.)

The advantage of using our iPads are that we use less paper and that there is less of a chance of us losing our notes. The disadvantage is that in my Evernote the file size gets really big and takes very long to open. I kind of like taking open note tests because you don’t have to memorize as much stuff as a regular test, yet I think open note tests are harder to study for. If I had to do this again I would go to Mrs Donnelly and ask her what to study for.

Evernote is an app that you can save things in, share things with other people, and do many other things. You should try to save as many things as possible in Evernote because if something happens to your data, you have it saved on Evernote. You can also access you Evernote account from a computer. All of my data in other apps on my iPad was deleted but I was able to keep the things that were in Evernote. If you use Skitch and have Evernote too it is a good idea to let Skitch make a new notebook in Evernote for your drawings or other things so that if anything ever happens you still have all of your important stuff.

Helpful Apps On Our iPads By Anna

This year Durham Academy provided iPads for the whole middle school. After having them for a few mounths they have been very helpful. We have some textbooks on the iPad and some books just to read for fun. A lot of times we don’t even have to take as many binders home because the homework is on our iPads. I’m really glad we got iPads because they can be used for many things other schools can’t do.

Evernote is an app on our iPads. It is used daily by most Durham Academy students because it is very helpful. Why is it helpful? This app is very helpful because you can take notes, find handouts that teachers have shared with students, find what your homework is, and mail important things to teachers if they need to read or check them. Some students find all their homework in Evernote, but some use their Reminders app to record homework during the school day. I love Evernote, although sometimes it is stubborn and won’t cooperate. I am glad we have Evernote because it is a good source to easily find work if you are absent or forgot what the homework for certain classes were.

Another helpful app on our iPads is the Outlook Mail app. It is useful because if you need help on homework, don’t understand something, or forgot how to do something, you can easily contact a teacher or friend about it instead of coming to school early to figure it out or calling someone. On this app you can send pictures, messages, and messages to multiple people. It is also very simple to send a new message, reply to a message, save a draft, and read incoming mail. One bad thing about this app is that if you don’t have internet it will not send mail. Other then that the Outlook Mail app is a great way to quickly get in touch with people.

The last helpful app is Mindmeister. You can use it for taking notes and making maps which can be used for studying our vocabulary words. You can also insert photos, document, and PDFs. We use it most in our Language Arts class. Now that we have our iPads we can say bye to paper and pen and do it on Mindmeister much faster!

iPads

Evernote by Julia K

I think that a helpful app on the iPad is Evernote. Using Evernote you can see the homework for a class, take notes, and do homework assignments. This app is very useful for class and it has helped me a lot but there are downsides to it. Some downsides are that it crashes a lot, sometimes it deletes all of your work, it doesn’t always synchronize properly, and occasionally it just doesn’t work. All things considered, I think that Evernote is a helpful app and very useful to organize things.

iPads By Dylan J.

There are many different types of learners and the iPad helps most of them. If you are a hearing learner this device is extremely helpful.

1. I think that the most useful app is Evernote because you can write your homework there, you can write reports, and you can email the things you have made on Evernote to people.

2. The second most useful app in my opinion is Google docs. It can do everything Evernote does. You can also make presentations on it which you cannot do on Evernote.

3. The third is GoodReader because you can answer and edit things the teachers have put onto Evernote.

4.Sketch Book Express I think is a great app for all artists and drawers and if you are in art.

5. The 5th most useful app in my opinion is Veracross because that is where all of the teachers share their new notebooks with you.

I also think that styluses are extremely useful. I hope this information came in handy.

This my first blog post in L.A. We had a lot of trouble trying to get Evernote on the laptops that the school owned. So first we went on to Safari and went to the Evernote website. We tried to download it but then Safari quit. Then we opened it all over again and it took a long time. Then it turns out that we had the wrong type of Safari. So we had to go to the computer lab to learn how to use Evernote. We got to the lab and class was almost over so we had to hurry!!!!!!!!!!!
